Westchester and Putnam Counties have a thriving healthcare industry made up of hospitals, physicians’ offices, dental offices and long-term care facilities. The healthcare sector is essential to the economic vitality of the region as well as the health of its citizens. The Westchester-Putnam Workforce One Stop Employment Center, in partnership with the White Plains Hospital Center and NorMet, is leading the sector partnership. The work of the partners is to engage with employers in the region in order to identify the workforce gaps and needs that exist to determine the education and training programs that are necessary to meet the needs of employers. Sector partnership activities have included: Summer Internship Program -The Westchester-Putnam Onestop Employment Center placed and underwrote the cost of summer interns. NorMet has signed on as a partner on a number of pending federal grants which, if funded, would allow for training of new and incumbent workers in the region.
