READI OrientationWestchester-Putnam, Jan. 17, 2017 —The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board (WPWDB) is recruiting volunteers to learn more about READI and attend a free orientation workshop. The initial group of trainers will train others in the READI curriculum so they can bring the program to teens through various organizations in both counties.

The process of becoming a READI trainer takes several sessions and the free orientation workshop is designed to explain the process so that individuals can determine if it fits with their schedules and interests. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at 120 Bloomingdale Road in White Plains. Participants will have the opportunity to hear more about the program, ask questions, and discuss the process, time commitment and other logistics. READI workshops will be taught throughout the year so that individuals who may not be able to commit immediately but are interested, can fit the training into their calendar. Complete the application online. Those interested in learning more are welcome to attend the orientation without completing the online application.

READI—an acronym that represents: Respect, Enthusiasm, Articulate, Dependable and Initiative -- has been structured into a curriculum developed by the WPWDB Hospitality Resource Group last November. The WPWDB is now preparing to implement the next phase; training for and distribution of the curriculum on a wider scale.

The time commitment to learn the program is 15 – 20 hours. Those who have an instructional and/or teaching background or professional development experience would make ideal trainers as would retirees. To find out more call (914) 995-3710.

The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board provides an environment where job seekers and employers interact to meet the needs for a highly qualified regional workforce. The WPWDB seeks to strengthen partnerships with business sectors, service providers and the public education system to offer career services and various training modalities to youth and adults.
