youthSum2018On Wednesday, April 4, the Westchester-Putnam Work Development Academy for Youth and the Business Council of Westchester will host the Seventh Annual Youth Summit for individuals ages 16-24. The theme of this year's Summit is "Navigate to Your Career Destination"

The goal is to provide attendees with a road map for identifying and pursuing the career in an industry they have an interest in, and provide communications skills that they can use immediately in any field they choose. There is no cost to attend and complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as free parking at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Advanced registration is required by March 28 by visiting www.thebcw.org.The Summit will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 66 Hale Avenue in White Plains, NY from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will take place at 8:30 a.m. and programs will begin at 9 a.m.

The day will include two groups of workshops:

  • The first set will include interactive sessions on goal setting, understanding strengths and identifying personal communication styles, all with the intent to help encourage self-discovery and career readiness.
  • The second set of work shops is designed to provide a Master Class experience with experts on topics such as leadership, and understanding the college process.

This year's keynote speaker is Carl Michel, a young author and entrepreneur who is on a mission to shift the mindset of youth toward a brighter direction. The Young Executive, Carl Michel, uses business principles and positive aspects of Hip-Hop music to motivate people to make better decisions. Michel himself has overcome reckless behavior and substance abuse, and understands the adversities and
struggles of today's urban culture. His mission is to help cultivate young minds to see beyond their current circumstances, in order to strive for greatness and live an abundant life. By being completely transparent and providing examples of achievement, youth will see something worth striving for.

"The Youth Summit is designed to be an interactive day with a robust agenda, providing youth in attendance with information to help build the skill sets needed to successfully enter the workfo rce. Over the years, we have seen great participation from the business community, showing their commitment and investment in our future workforce. This event serves as a great opportunity to make a direct connection between youth and the businesses community. Our goa l is for participants to walk away with tangible information that they can use immediately along their journey in their careers," stated Ebony White, Director of Workforce and Employer Development for the Business Council of Westchester.

The event is coordinated through the Business Council of Westchester, and is being run under the auspices of Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board, and sponsors including Berkeley College, KeyBank, Veekast, Cross County Shopping Center and WestCOP.
