Volunteer for the Westchester VITA Program
The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board and Westchester County Department of Social Services are recruiting volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
Our mission is simple: help low and moderate-income individuals and families file their taxes accurately and receive the refunds they're entitled to – completely free of charge.

Tax preparation
Help clients complete and file their tax returns
Language translation
Assist clients who speak languages other than English
Call center support
Answer client questions and schedule appointments
Site greeter
Welcome clients with a friendly face and help them get oriented
Training & Certification
Free IRS-sponsored training
- Training and certification for volunteer tax preparers is provided at no cost
- Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Multiple formats
- Virtual sessions available
- In-person training at various locations (details coming soon)
Time commitment
- We ask for a specific weekly time commitment during tax season
- Flexibility varies by role
