How to Access Individual Training Accounts (ITA’s) to Fund
Short-Term Education and Employment Training

What is an Individual Training Account (ITA)?

An ITA is essentially a voucher given to eligible Career Center customers who need occupational skills training to become employed full-time at a sustainable living wage. Supported by assessment and informed decision-making, customers use their ITAs to attend any certificate program on the approved eligible provider list.

What does an Individual Training Account fund?

ITAs can fund course tuition, registration fees, testing fees, and books. ITAs are for short-term training—less than 1 year.

Who is eligible to apply for an Individual Training Grant? Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Create a job seeker profile, complete an Orientation Packet, and schedule a One-on-One with an Employment Counselor.
  • Be willing to provide income documentation of their entire household to prove economic eligibility. Income is measured on a sliding scale based on number of people in the household and must be below a maximum threshold.
  • Meet the education/work experience requirements for the specific training in a designated high-demand field.
  • Select a training from the Approved Eligible Training. Provider List supplied by the Employment Counselor.
  • Be ready to work immediately after training and report job placement information.
  • Be accountable, attend classes, and communicate regularly with the Employment Counselor.

How do I get started?

  • Meet with an Employment Counselor to fill out forms and complete an initial screening.
  • Compile and provide income verfication documents.
  • Fill out the online ITA application.
  • The length of the process depends on when eligibility documents are submitted, and when courses become available. A Career Center staff person will guide you through the process every step of the way.
