The Westchester County Office of Economic Development is hosting an upcoming resource and career summit featuring employment in the clean energy sector. This event is in partnership with Sustainable Westchester, New Yorkers for Clean Power, and Pace University (located at 78 N. Broadway, White Plains, New York). The event will include speakers, panel discussions, a job and resource fair, and networking opportunities at this event.

Attendees can select which parts of the event they would like to attend and do not need to attend the entire day. Young people, women, people of color, previously incarcerated individuals, veterans, and individuals from historically disadvantaged communities are strongly encouraged to attend! This event is more than a resource and job fair, but rather an immersive experience for persons interested in a future career in the clean energy sector to gather information and resources, learn about the future of the field, and network with people who have similar career interests. This year’s presentation will take place on a virtual platform.

The Annual Meeting will feature a panel discussion around "Reimagining Workforce Strategies During a Pandemic: A Statewide, Urban, & Suburban-Rural Perspective.”
The panel will be led by Melinda Mack, Executive Director of the New York Association of Training & Employment Professionals, who will provide a statewide perspective and facilitate a discussion with:

The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Board will once again offer its popular free tax preparation assistance to Westchester residents through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The VITA program, which will run Feb. 1 to April 15, 2020 at eight locations, helps low- and moderate-income individuals and families eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) file their taxes and maximize their returns. To make sure the program delivers maximum benefits, VITA relies on dedicated volunteers to assist with translation, call-center operations, and acting as greeters. Tax preparation is done by IRS-certified volunteers at no cost. Since its inception, VITA has been a vital service for those living paycheck to paycheck or with fixed incomes. Additional information. The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board is looking for people of all professional backgrounds and experience levels to help administer its popular Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The program, which will run from Feb. 1 to April 15, 2019, will help low- and moderate-income individuals and families eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) file their taxes and maximize their returns.

All tax assistance is provided at no cost. To make sure the program delivers maximum benefits, VITA relies on dedicated volunteers to assist with various tasks, including tax preparation, translation, call-center operations, and acting as greeters. Help is needed at sites in Dobbs Ferry, Mount Vernon, Valhalla, White Plains, and Yonkers. No previous experience is required, and hours are flexible, averaging three to four hours per week. Some volunteer positions require training which is held in January.

Youth Summit 2018June 27, 2018 - Youth Workforce ‘R.E.A.D.I.’ Program to Launch in New Rochelle On June 27, 2018 at City Hall

The City of New Rochelle will host an official launch and press conference for the R.E.A.D.I. program on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 12 Noon. READI represents the workplace attributes Westchester businesses look for in youth they hire. The acronym means: Respect, Enthusiasm, Articulate, Dependable, and Initiative. The event is organized by The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board, My Brother’s Keeper Challenge, Westchester Children’s Association, and the Guidance Center of Westchester.

Additional partners involved with bringing the curriculum to New Rochelle this summer include Councilmen Jared Rice’s Office, Westhab, Inc., New Rochelle High School, New Rochelle Youth Bureau, Boys and Girls Clubs of New Rochelle, and New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, and The Westchester Bank.
