Westchester Putnam Internship ConnexInternship Connex – In 2011 The Westchester-Putnam Workforce Investment Board created an internship on-line portal to connect local college students with local companies and titled it Westchester Putnam “Internship Connex.”

The concept for creating the online portal devoted to internships was first introduced by the Business Council’s Coalition for Business Development in 2011, and further refined by the council’s study on “youth flight” in 2012. The study, which involved a series of focus groups among young professionals and college students, called for developing a consortium of all Westchester colleges and universities that would provide young professionals with access to employment, internships and mentoring opportunities. Internship Connex is managed by the Business Council of Westchester, under contract with the Westchester Putnam Workforce Investment Board.

One-stop shopping: Once an account and business profile are established online, employers can post internships, receive bi-weekly e-mails of activities on their postings and search the site for qualified interns by major. Registered students can post resumes for businesses to consider, while searching and applying for internship opportunities directly through the portal.

Flexibility and year-round placements: Internships come in different shapes and sizes. Employers and students can tailor the program to their unique needs and search by sector, industry, profession, duration of the internship or hours per week.

Diverse and quality internships: Connex employer partners are extensive, representing diverse sectors, industries and professions. Whether looking for an internship at a small business, new start-up, for profit, not-for-profit, public sector, private sector or major-corporations, Connex will search for the best match and opportunity.

Educated and talented students: The program was established to support young workers ages 18 to 22—a critical part of our local workforce— with real-world career experience. All Connex students are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at local Westchester or Putnam colleges or universities. Some students are completing internships for credit, while others are seeking part-time work or an opportunity to break into their field of study.

Support of participating higher educational institutions: Connex operates in partnership with over a dozen area colleges and universities. Each institution has a designated Connex Career Advisor available to support the student and the employer throughout the duration of the internship.

College Students
Only college students registered at a participating Westchester or Putnam college or university may create an internship account. While a college internship is a great resume builder, it's ultimately a unique opportunity to break into an industry you love, make excellent connections and secure a potential path for a great job straight out of college.

College Counselors
Counselors will be able to leverage the Connex portal by expanding the quality and quantity of internships available to the college's student body. Counselors will receive regular e-mail updates on the status of student internship searches.

Employers
Only employers in Westchester and Putnam Counties can establish internship accounts on Connex. As a bridge to a bright economic future, Connex can assist employers in successfully developing internships for their company, whether that be a small business, new start-up, for profit, not-for-profit or major corporation.
