Donnovan BeckfordWhite Plains, NY — At its Aug. 24, 2016 meeting, the New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC) board of directors approved a motion to create a Workforce Development Committee.

The committee will be co-chaired by Donnovan Beckford, Executive Director of Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development and Mike Manikowski, Executive Director, Ontario County Office of Economic Development. Both are NYSEDC directors. Creation of the committee is in recognition of the importance of workforce to economic development. • Tech-Based Economic Development
  • Community-Based Economic Development
  • Workforce Development

NYSEDC also has established a section on issues, policies, and practices of Industrial Development Agencies.

Some of the goals of the Workforce Development Committee will be to:

  • Foster communication among EDOs, higher education, WIBs, and other workforce systems
  • Promote a working relationship among these partners
  • Identify practices and policies that can be shared and duplicated
  • Identify legislative/regulatory priorities to facilitate the creation and delivery of effective workforce development.
