On Nov. 2, 2022, the Mount Vernon Career Center relaunched its inperson career fairs. The popular on-site job fairs had been suspended due to covid precautions.
Over 180 job seekers pre-registered to meet with 15 employers that included Acacia Network, Children’s Village, Allied Security, Restaurant Depot, Unitex Healthcare Laundry Services, Westchester County Dept. of Social Services, DeCicco & Sons, Andrus Children, Epic Rehabilitation & Nursing, Liberty Bus Lines, ENT and Allergy Associates, WJCS—Westchester Jewish Community Services, NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and Stew
Leonard’s for a wide variety of job positions.
Andrea A. Haynes, Director of Economic Development, City of Mount Vernon said: “The City of Mount Vernon is always ready and willing to collaborate with the Career Center to help our residents get good paying jobs, and therefore support our local economy.”
Thom Kleiner, Executive Director, Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board added: “We encourage job seekers of all ages and skill levels to attend our job fairs which provide great opportunities to allow job seekers to embark on career paths that will lead to new skills and increased earnings. Our local economy is mutually dependent on employers willing to invest in our region and a skilled workforce ready to learn and grow.”
Emilia Gaston, Department of Social Services said, “We were so happy to be at this job fair meeting candidates inperson. I was able to meet more than 30 qualified people in just a couple of hours which is very encouraging.”
Job seekers Tonya Wheeler and John Sherman both expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to meet with so many employers face to face in one day.
