NY Youth Works

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed the NY Youth Works Program into law on Dec. 9, 2011 to encourage businesses to hire unemployed, disadvantaged youth. The program will support job training and employment for eligible youth ages 16 to 24.

The NY Youth Works Program has three elements:

For Businesses
Your business can earn tax credits of up to $4,000 for eligible youth starting work between Jan. 1 and July 1, 2012. Your business must be certified to participate in the program. The process is easy. To see if your business qualifies and apply online.

For Youth
This program can help you get a job! Plus, you may earn up to $900 to cover your expenses if you get training from an authorized NY Youth Works provider. To see if you qualify and apply on-line.

For Placement/Training Providers
The NYS Department of Labor has made $8 million dollars available through three solicitations to facilitate the employment of work-ready youth in the 12 targeted New York Youth Work areas. Entities are eligible to apply for all three solicitations (total funding up to $300,000). However, the Department encourages organizations to first apply to the opportunity which it can most readily implement. Download the solicitations.

The Westchester-Putnam Career Center Network is made up of four Career Centers located in White Plains, Mount Vernon, Peekskill and Carmel
and are primarily staffed by Westchester County, Putnam County, and New York State Department of Labor employees
to provide free state-of-the-art technology, training, resources, and services to youth, adults, and employers.
The Network also includes partner agencies who work in cooperation to provide expanded services.
